Mathematics

The NSW Mathematics Syllabus and the ACT Curriculum Framework are used as a basis for ongoing development in Mathematics for Years K-6. There is an emphasis on the need for students to acquire a sound understanding of mathematical concepts together with good language skills to further the communication of mathematical ideas and experiences.

The use of ‘hands on’ activities, incorporating "Count Me In Too" strategies, is of prime importance. Maths experiences will encompass the equally important strands of Number, Patterns & Algebra, Data, Measurement, Space & Geometry. Through these experiences children will develop competency appropriate to their stage of development in all strands.

An important part of the classroom program is to understand and use Maths in real life situations and to solve problems. The appropriate use of calculators and technology is also included in the activities presented to children. Basic number facts are considered a vital component of our primary maths program.
